Don’t Die Wondering – a space for life’s big questions

A drop-in group for 15-20 year olds on a Thursday 6pm -7pm at the Church Hall.

What started as informal conversations between the Rev’d Lynda Lilley and a group of local teenagers has developed into a weekly gathering called “Don’t Die Wondering” at the Broseley Group of Churches.

The name came from some graffiti found carved into a wooden part of the church hall building. It seemed to capture perfectly the questions the young people were already asking: Why does God allow bad things to happen? What is our purpose? What does the future hold? And what am I going to do with my life?

“Don’t Die Wondering” provides a relaxed and welcoming space where young people can ask those questions openly, without feeling that they need to have all the answers. The discussions are informal, with the young people help to choose the subjects they want to explore.

We hope that the group will also become part of the wider life of the church. Following a fire in the churchyard, the concern shown by the young people demonstrated just how much the church community and the friendships they have made there mean to them.

For Rev’d Lynda, the group is a reminder that the church has an important role in simply being there to listen.

“We may not be able to answer all the questions, but we can help them explore,” she says.

We hope that “Don’t Die Wondering” will continue to grow as a safe place where young people can bring their questions, doubts and hopes — and discover that they don't have to face life's big questions alone.
